Fukrey is one of those movies which wouldn't let you stop laughing for any moment. The humor is so spontaneous that most of the times you'd laugh out of surprise. It's a fresh script, thematic, and doesn't rely on one-liners to get you in splits. The storyline is compelling and witty. A story about 2 school kids who desperately want to get into a premier college despite having failed their 12th class twice (one of them failed even in 1st class). Their unique talent is that one dreams something absurd, the other decodes that dream to get the winning number of a lottery. But a series of incidents get them into trouble which is a hilarious journey, along with 2 other guys.The movie is buoyed up with well-sketched characters portrayed so perfectly by the actors, which is a boon for the movie. The real flavor of Delhi's lower-middle class mannerism and lingo is accentuated by the cinematography that focuses on the respective areas rather than 'Dilli-Darshan' (Voyaging Delhi). The script might be silly or illogical to many, but that is what creates the humor here! It's not an intellectual comedy, but it ain't stupid as well. It's well-balanced between the two. A must-watch.

No to be at all negative when i begin, but i had no particular hopes for this film. I watched it with my daughter who is a fan of zombie fiction, series and so forth. I expected all out gore but what i found was a well thought out, unique spin on a well worn genre. It had a wonderful cast and the comedy was excellent (barring a few rather cruder moments for my tastes). Overall i enjoyed this film and would most certainly watch it again. I know my daughter would agree. Well worth your time and i cannot at all understand how it is averaging so low? This is a film that i feel many would enjoy, though it is still quite niche it is a refreshing change.

i have to say i do love Jet Li, i have seen all his movies but it is a wonder why he was in this movie although he was not the main actor it was a very bad production. lets start with the script it was lousy something which was done and killed many times i think this film was the actual burial. effects and cgi was done by backstreet dealer. camera man should have had his medicine before even start to work on the day it was that bad. then there is the director i do not know who it was as my knowledge on directors is limited but i can say to you he would be working in Mcdonalds after this movie, he simply try to copy Stephen Chow in to this production but failed on every level on film making. if you want to see a Asian movie today don't bother with this crap go for movie called DRUG WARS thousand times better than this. NOT recommended by me.

Suspense mounts, and you want to finish the remaining 90 minutes in a flash. That is how Ghanchakkar gathers its viewers.Emraan Hashmi is great with his portrayal while Vidya Balan troubled me a little. Her demeanor looked over-smart. The supporting cast is average, most of the time trying & failing to make us laugh. But, the plot is enough to keep us hooked.It seems illogical at first and you may start guessing hell of a lot of ideas on what happened & what happens next, but the epiphany is truly enduring & clever. With a slow-paced second half, it makes us yawn for a while, but the climax will blow it off. The makers have meticulously written the play and that is why it is recommended. 6.5/10.Music & songs are average, editing is good & overall, quite a funny film which doesn't use large amounts of vulgarity.BOTTOM LINE: A comic experience that should be considered. I saw this film at the Imagine film festival 2013 in Amsterdam. The plot is straightforward and simple: An alien spider that was planted in a human body, escapes from the hospital where the human was treated. The military takes over the hospital but fails miserably to contain the menace, in spite of showcasing an assortment of weapons and heavily decorated brass. A professional exterminator (Alex) and his volunteer helper (Jose) take over where the military falls short, and simultaneously take care of many hilarious moments that turn this film into an entertaining production, and let us overlook several of its faults.The spider in question quadruples in size every four hours. In the beginning of the story, the spider was a bit scary while it had a believable size. At first, it traversed the facility tubes of the hospital and could turn up anywhere in the building. Later on, it used the sewer system of the city while moving to a suitable location to plant eggs. But when it started growing exponentially, it became more of a predator (like a lion or a tiger), thereby loosing most of its scariness inherent to crawling insects. Still fierceful, of course, but not in a way fitting in the Horror genre.The exterminator duo, professional Alex with volunteer Jose, takes care of the humorous aspects, while the rest of the cast is one-dimensional entourage. Some of the military, the general and lieutenant Kelly, show more than one dimension in sparse better moments. The general is unexpectedly flexible in allowing help from outside the army, at moments when he considers himself powerless, in spite of all the guns and gadgets under his command. Lieutenant Kelly sticks to her role as someone who has everything under control (famous quote: "it's my job"). We see that events in this unusual case evidently outgrow her training and eventually overpower her, after which she gets an important role as the maiden in distress, with Alex as the obvious knight to rescue her by whatever unorthodox means.All in all, we talk about family entertainment here. The label SciFi (IMDb) is not very appropriate, in my opinion. Instead, the Imagine festival website did it better with "Horror – Comedy". The exterminator duo (Alex and Jose) turn this movie into something interesting. Without them there is not much left to admire; not even the animated spider leaves an impression on us. With its 80 minutes running time, this movie is not too long for its minimal contents and yet succeeds in keeping our attention.

when you watched this film. there were many gibberish mambo-jumbo religious crappy monologue or crazy enough talk-to-himself murmurings. and the directing was also quite weird as the film itself. there was an usual cunning vicious and violent religious bully who thought all the vast land was his lord and his own property. he committed murder after murder under the name and excuse of the lord and at the same time whenever he reached the climax when he screwed his female followers, he also praised the lord for his ultimate pleasure(guess why all the men and women would cry out in unison 'oh, my god, oh my god' is indeed a Christian mantra during intercourse or love-making?) this is a very weird movie, an out-of-the-box very unconventional western, at times funny and ruthless, sometimes clueless and ridiculous. but what made this film above the cheap low budget western genre B movies was 1) most of the actors did great jobs and performed so well that didn't give you a cheap feeling of the average tasteless low budget and disgusting modern day western B movies; 2) the great cinematography of the camera, the wide angle wildness of the landscape, the beautiful light setting control. just by watching the glamorous camera works would worth the money and earned at least 8 stars; 3) although the screenplay was a bit over the top ridiculous, but still quite watchable, good enough to anchor your fat buttocks firmly on the seat to the end. again, a weird mindless clueless absurdity sometimes is not a bad idea.

I also have to express dismay at the low rating this film has on IMDb. It seemed a well done, decently acted movie with a story that is neither ridiculous nor simplistic. I honestly believe it is deserving of an above average rating. Probably what annoyed a lot of people is the poster, which has nothing to do with the movie at all. It is not a film about glorious deaths in violent battles.The Viking raid on Lindisfarne monastery is a real event that is considered by historians to be the beginning of the so called Viking Age. As with the TV show Vikings, the event is used to inspire the storyline in The Darkest Day, without much concern for historical accuracy, but this film has it a bit closer to reality.The plot is seen through the eyes of a young monk, one of two escaping from the Lindisfarne's raid and carrying the Lindisfarne's Gospels, a beautifully crafted book that holds "the word of God" and without which the monks believe the Angles country is lost. The book is a real artifact that you can read about. The monks run away from a bunch of Vikings that want the book, believing it holds "the power of the white Christ" and can be used to rule the land. Their escape shows you glimpses of the wild and poor way of living in those times (around 800 AD) in the British Isles. Helped by an old warrior, they meet Christian sectarians and a Pict woman they rescue from bondage and try to fend off the raiders.I've watched a few Viking related movies lately, something spurned by the TV show Vikings, and this is by far one of the best. It is a low budget English and Welsh film with almost completely unknown actors in a small cast, but they each play their roles well and the bleak and violent trek through ancient England feels realistic and raw. The name of the young monk, Hereward, is an ironic hint of the end of the movie. Again: a clearly above average film, especially if you are in a Viking mood.

Inspired from journalist S Hussain Zaidi's non-fiction book Dongri to Dubai, 'Shootout at Wadala', Directed by Sanjay Gupta, is An Engaging Action Film, that re-tells Late Gangster Manya Surve's bloodied story. Gupta handles the film well, while the Screenplay & Performances are note-worthy. 'Shootout at Wadala' is based on the first-ever registered encounter by Mumbai police, where Gangster Manya Surve was shot dead, in Mumbai on 11 January 1982.'Shootout at Wadala' is extremely violent & disturbing. The violence depicted on-screen appears real & horrifying. Of course, the Action-Sequences are rustic & effective, but there is just too much of gore. The Faint-Hearted better stay away! Gupta's Screenplay is note-worthy & is engaging. The first-hour is power-packed, while the second-hour culminates with a nail-biting finale. Gupta's Direction is stylish. He's in form after a long, long time. Cinematography is rustic. Editing could've been sharper. Music by Multiple Music Directors is fair. Performance-Wise: John Abraham as Manya Surve, gives an all-out performance. He's believable all through. Anil Kapoor is simply superb as the tough cop. He stands out! Kangna Ranaut is wonderful, while Tusshar has his moments. Manoj Bajpai is flawless in a relatively small role. Bajpai never disappoints! Sonu Sood is another topper. He enacts an important role with terrific ease. Ronit Roy is excellent. Mahesh Manjrekar is perfect. Sidharth Kapoor holds tremendous potential as an actor. Jackie Shroff shines in a cameo. Raju Kher is brilliant. Priyanka Chopra, Sunny Leone & Sophie sparkle in item numbers. On the whole, 'Shootout at Wadala' re-tells a true story, efficiently.

There are many gangster movies lately. This new addition is more engaging than some others I have seen. The lead characters are well written and the story has a decent plot with not many loopholes. The movie starts slow but picks up pace very quickly. However, in this movie, like many others, the good guys do not die even when the entire gang is shooting at them. This Bollywood touch gets unintentionally comical. But overall, the movie was enjoyable. The backdrop of Gurgaon real estate is new. I have wondered when will someone come up with a story around the real estate boom that Gurgaon has seen. Arjun Kapoor acted well in both his roles. Prithviraj was intense. Rishi Kapoor had the Haryanvi touch in his dialogs in the first half, in the second half it was lost (weird). Jackie Shroff was mellow and didn't look like the emperor that he was supposed to portray. He looked like a sad old man.. May be this was the intent. Sasha Aagha had nothing much to do in the film. Why was she there again? Wish there was more of Deepti Naval, her role seems to have been chopped.

Excellent movie!! Great casting and acting, the cinematography was very well done. I highly recommend this to anyone with children who have a sense of adventure! It also has a very meaningful message and unfortunately most kids movies today miss that important quality. This writer really "gets it", when it comes to quality films for young adults. He helps show them that morals are important and that getting outside and exploring what nature has to offer is very exciting! My nephews loved it, (they range in age for 8-13), they asked me if I could set up a treasure hunt for them outside in the woods so they could explore. Thank you for helping me show them there is more to life then video games and for also helping me remember what it was like to be that age again. We all look forward to the sequel!

'Mr Go' is one of those movies that you go in thinking that you have it all figured out, only to realise that it packs so much more than you had ever expected it would. Not that it isn't unabashedly a family film, but the real surprise to Kim Yong-hwa's expensive 3D film is how it deftly confounds audience expectations with its engaging plot, offering a thoroughly enjoyable experience for both young and old alike.Based on the classic 1980s comic '7th Baseball Club' by Heo Young-man, the titular character refers to a 285 kg circus gorilla who is recruited by a savvy baseball agent to join the professional league by batting for the Doosan Bears. Such a high-concept premise seems primed for formula, especially since Mr Go is also the de facto guardian of a 15-year old precocious girl named Wei Wei (played by Mainland actress Xu Jiao), so one might be excused for already anticipating a rousing finale which simply affirms the ties between human and primate.For the record, as well as for the benefit of audiences looking for that sort of an uplifting conclusion, it does end on such a stirring high note. Yet that is only half of the story, and Kim and his co-writers - Kim Hyun-chul and Kim Jong-hyun - deserve credit for coming up with some interesting surprises along the way. Instead of proceeding on a straight trajectory therefore, this one twists and turns thanks to some nicely timed curveballs, charting an altogether different path from where you think the various narrative threads are going.Setting the stage for said gorilla Ling Ling's journey to Korea is the 2008 Great Sichuan Earthquake, which causes the death of Wei Wei's grandfather and leaves her in charge of his circus with a huge debt over their heads. As debtors come calling, Wei Wei is left at her wit's end how to save the circus as well as the forty other orphans who claim shelter under its roof. And so when the wily Sung (Korean actor Sung Dong-il) comes knocking, she readily accepts his offer to transform Ling Ling into a baseball star.Whereas other genre movies might have settled for making Sung the villain who turns over a new leaf by the time the credits roll, Sung is none of that here; rather, questionable though his motives may have been at the start, he forms an almost immediate bond with Ling Ling even as the latter uses the leaves of his prized Japanese tree in a garden within his apartment to make its bed. Neither does Ling Ling have any trouble settling into the game; in fact, he takes to baseball like the glove that fits the hand.Reserving Sung's cover-up of Ling Ling's weak knee for almost the very end, Kim works on the debtors' continued harassment of the orphans and more importantly, a second gorilla named Lei-Ting whom Wei Wei had tried but failed to train and tame. At least for the first half of the movie, it isn't quite clear how Lei-Ting will come into the picture, but once you see how the filmmakers weave him into the story, you can't help but be awed for both their ingenuity as well as their ambition.Indeed, for what marks the first fully CGI-ed character to be created in Korean cinema, Kim has certainly set the bar high for himself and the larger industry. Working together with his VFX supervisor Jung Sung-jin under Kim's own studio Dexter Digital, he brings Ling Ling to life with amazing vividness. Undoubtedly impressive are the scenes where Ling Ling gets in the heat of the game; in particular, one where his trainer Wei Wei goes AWOL leaving Sung to take over is exhilarating to watch as Ling Ling gets out of control and is pursued by an emergency helicopter over the roof of the Jamsil Stadium. But Kim reserves the best for last; the finale where Ling Ling and Lei-Ting end up on opposing teams and go up against each other is jaw-dropping to say the least, particularly so when one considers that both gorillas are in fact computer-generated.With a keen sensibility tuned to the game too, Kim choreographs the baseball matches with throbbing excitement, sparing no expense at replicating the sheer thrill of the games. Baseball fans will also appreciate how he takes care to intertwine finer intricacies of the sport as a business, as Ling Ling's talent attracts the interest of two rival Japanese baseball teams which Sung proceeds to milk for maximum gain. Such details add richness to what could easily have been a run-of- the-mill family movie, and demonstrate Kim's endeavour at both creative and technical artistry.His achievement is also even the more notable for being the first major Korean-Chinese co-production - a significant part of its US$22.5 mil budget (considered sizeable by the terms of the Korean film industry) was put up by Huayi Brothers. Notwithstanding the necessities of ensuring some Chinese element in the story (Wei Wei's circus hails from China), Kim's film is a brilliant example of cross-strait collaboration that does not need to pander to audiences on either side. Most of all, it is amusing, heartwarming, poignant and inspirational, one of the very best family films we've seen in a long while.

A solid attempt at making a horror film about an urban legend called Slender Man (first time I heard about it, but it sounds kind of intriguing). I was pleasantly surprised when I saw the special effects used for depicting the Slender Man. Yes, he appears very briefly on screen, but looks well made (this is an extremely low-budget movie, so I wasn't expecting him to appear at all). The rest of the movie was just your standard "found footage" horror, unremarkable and mostly dull, only slightly more interesting toward the end.Can't say I would recommend this to anyone but hardcore fans of "found footage" horror movies like The Blair Witch Project. It's mostly boring and acting is unconvincing, but considering it's very low production standards, it could have been worse.

I watch a lot of films of just about every genre there is so I would say I'm a good judge of a film's quality and this was supposed to be a parody of the 'Paranormal Activity' films. I would imagine it's not too difficult to make a mediocre parody because you already have the material of the film/films you intend to lampoon but somehow this lot managed to get it wrong in every single way possible. They even coaxed Eric Roberts into showing himself for a few (very few) minutes but even he wasn't in a very funny mood. I didn't laugh once and I managed to laugh at a few of the gags in 'Epic Movie' so perhaps that will allow you to put it into perspective. I'm not sure what to make of this film, it came across as very disjointed. The characters seemed very shallow and not really at all interesting or engaging. There were several scenes that seemed out of place or completely needless. Many scenes also seemed far too long and awkward. Honestly, it's a miracle I made it through the whole film and didn't turn it off. I kept hoping it would get better. Not so much. I am amazed this film is rated as high as it is. Cinematically, that camera work was nothing special. However, there were a few scenes where the camera work was distracting and also a few awkward slow-motion moments. The acting seemed very rigid, and not natural at all. It also seemed a bit preachy in spots, it appears that regurgitation of an agenda was more important than a dynamic story.

Wherever you are on the spectrum, an adherent to a specific organized religion, simply spiritual or a skeptic with a sole perspective toward scientific reason, you'll find that this movie adds a welcome diversity to the pool of Hollywood productions. The world watches and enjoys religious/spiritual/moral themes in movies, from Denzel Washington in "Malcolm X" portraying a journey toward more religious inclusiveness to Keanu Reeves in "The Devil's Advocate" and "Constantine" where he fights and overcomes the devil and demons. Along these lines this movie is similar, however, it departs from the negative norm and introduces themes of universal hope common to everyone. A hope that one can overcome those that initiate violence, that one can find love in marriage and children, that there are strangers that care and are willing to share a meal or lend an ear. Even though this film uses strong western Judeo-Christian beliefs and language it is truly an enjoyable watch that starkly contrasts our calculating postmodern world with its focus on political agendas, war, and corporate cost benefit analysis. First of all before I begin this review, I would like to say I watched this movie expecting an average found footage movie and weren't expecting an amazing blockbuster movie so if you're a fan of the found footage sub genre then check it out, if not then stay far away.With the recent wave of alien movies hitting our shelves/big screens (such as Unaware, Dark Skies, Tape #4 in V/H/S/2, etc.) I was excited to see what directors could offer us next. Here we have Absence, a brand new immediately underrated creepy and suspenseful found footage sci-fi horror movie, before I say anymore, here's a quick rundown on the movie's plot:The movie begins with Evan, a camera obsessed student filming his sister, Liz and her husband, Rick in hospital where they have just been told that the previously pregnant Liz is no longer pregnant which soon becomes a missing child case which leads to Liz and Rick being the talk of the town and being hassled by the media, etc. so to get a break from it all they decide to go to Rick's family cabin in the woods for a while and it's from this point on where things start to get really weird...After the hospital scene at the start of the film it does become very slow moving which in my opinion is a good thing because whilst the film is at a slow pace it gives you time to get to know the characters better so when the bad stuff does happen to them you'll care more about whether they live/die. It also adds a great sense of realism to the film when you see them cooking, playing pranks on each other, etc.When the scares do eventually show up it's worth the wait as this film has some very creepy moments, one in particular with a visitor at the back door at night time, which is a very quick but effective scare. I don't want to spoil anything but as with most found footage endings the ending is also very effective and the least I say about it the better.Overall I've gave this movie a solid 9 out of 10 because I thought it was a great found footage scare-fest that fans of movies such as Paranormal Activity, Unaware, The Fourth Kind and Dark Skies will enjoy, however, as I mentioned at the start of the review, if you hate found footage films and are expecting a blockbuster movie with amazing special effects and amazing actors then stay clear, this isn't for you.

A few months back, director Sajid Khan tried to play with the idea of recreating the 80s era on the screen with his HIMMATWALA. The film was rejected completely but perhaps Prabhu Deva liked Sajid's basic thought of incorporating the 80s feel and then used it in his latest film RAMAIYA VASTAVAIYA which is also supposed to be the launching pad of GIRISH KUMAR in the industry.Revealing the basic content of the film, it's an official remake of Prabhu Deva's own directorial debut in Telugu titled NUVVOSTANANTE NENODDANTANA released in 2005. But if this was based on the 2005 Telugu movie then the regional project itself was a highly inspired version of Rajshri's mega hit MAINE PYAR KIYA (1989) along with references of PYAR KIYA TO DARNA KYA (1998) too in its second half. So as far as its storyline is concerned the above mentioned names would clearly give you an idea of its pretty routine script with all seen before stuff served in the name of a new romantic film in 2013.Hence from that angle there is nothing new to see in this movie quite frankly. Its begins on a pleasant note with an old time 80s feel and then keeps progressing just like a typical Hindi love story seen many times before. In fact such is the impact of its inspirations that many a times you feel like watching exactly same sequences as seen in those hit movies, like the one where Sonu Sood comes to the big mansion before the interval just as Alok Nath does in MAINE PYAR KIYA. Post interval a few scenes tend to go over the top, childish and lengthy too with some forced humour. But then it all ends on a happy note as usually seen in these kinds of predictable love stories regularly being made in Bollywood from ages.Having said that, there still remains something likable, throughout in this film which strongly doesn't allow you to simply call it a trash as it may seem. And probably the trick lies in its fairly nice execution which keeps delivering the new insertions at a good pace and never lets you think about its outdated structure seriously. Both Prabhu Deva and his writers ensure the emotional as well as the entertainment factor to be there in the film, right from its first scene itself, even at the cost of going too loud in the second half. As a result, the viewers who might not have seen the two original films, do not get anything major to complain and remain seated.Besides the film has a decent packaging, cool cinematography and some hit tracks which are evidently a must have for a Bollywood love story to win some hearts in the Indian market. "Jeene Laga Hun" is already popular in the masses and "Jadoo Ki Jhappi", "Hip Hop Pammi" & "Rang Jo Lagyo" sound fine while watching the film. So overall music director duo Sachin-Jigar have done a decent job here for the otherwise jaded love saga.Girish Kumar in his debut performance shows the confidence, but also goes over the top in few sequences perhaps because his character was conceived in that way only by the director. Girish does almost everything in the film, what a Bollywood hero needs to do, but manages to impress only up to an extent, especially in the second half. Yet, the boy shows a decent glimpse of honesty and sincerity in his overblown lover boy act.Shruti Hassan adds to the likable feel with her innocent presence playing the leading lady. She looks gorgeous in all the traditional dresses and brings a pleasant kind of freshness in the film with her cool act.Sonu Sood is simply excellent in the role of Shruti's elder brother and Vinod Khanna is lovable as the helpful station master. The supporting cast has some reputed names who all play it fine including Randhir Kapoor, Nasser, Poonam Dhillon & Satish Shahalong with Zakir Hussain, Mushtaq Khan, Sarfaraz Khan and Paresh Ganatra. Prabhu Deva makes a cameo in an item song with Jacqueline, but the song doesn't have any great dance movements from the maestro, which might disappoint his die- hard fans a lot.Summing up, what Sajid Khan failed to achieve in his HIMMATWALA, Prabhdeva majorly succeeds in getting the same in his RAMAIYA VASTAVAIYA, i.e. bringing back that breezy feel of the 80s. So though the film has nothing new in the name of content, it still may work in the single screen and smaller centers due to its standard entertaining sequences & music, targeting a particular section of viewers. However, the other truth is that the producers have actually played it too safe to launch their son in such a simple and routine film. With a new age experimental project written around a loving couple, Girish surely could have impressed the viewers a lot more than this old-fashioned Bollywood love story. So watch it only if you are a true fan of that dated era of 80s and can still enjoy many exactly similar sequences once again.
